According to Statista, there are over 170 universities in Nigeria, of which 79+ are privately owned by individuals or organizations, and the rest (both federal and state universities are owned by the government).

Higher institutions in Nigeria can be stressful and time-consuming for students due to the incessant strikes from ASSU and the degrading quality of learning resources in most of the government’s own institutions. Hence, most wealthy and middle-class people in the country tend to send their children and wards to privately-owned universities as better alternatives.
