Who is Taaooma?

Maryam Apaokagi (born 28 February 1999) known professionally as Taaooma is a Nigerian comedian, content creator, cinematographer, and social media influencer.

Taaooma came from an abbreviation of all her real names - Apaokagi Adedoyin Maryam. Born to Mr. and Mrs. Aishat Apaokagi, Taaooma is the last born of 5 children. She is known for acting multiple roles in her comedy skits.

Early Life.

Apaokagi was born in Nigeria but spent most of her early years in Namibia. She attended Amazing Kids Private School Academy for her primary school education and finished her secondary school at Concordia College in Windhoek, Namibia and she studied Tourism and Travel Service Management at the Kwara State University.

In 2015, she started online comedy after convincing her fiancé to teach her the basics of video editing. She rose to stardom in 2019 with a skit based on African parents taking their children to school.

In 2019, she was the face of Media Room Hub’s July Issue. Her comedy skits are centered on exposing African mothers and their unique manner of disciplining African children with a slap.

Personal life.
In October 2020, Apaokagi engaged her fiancé Abdulaziz Oladimeji in Namibia.

Awards and Recognitions.

On 8 November 2020, she was part of The Future Awards Africa: Class of 2020 for the prize of content creation (YouTubers, Vloggers). Apaokagi also made The Guardian Nigeria’s list of 100 Most Inspiring Women* in the country.

She is the founder of “Chop Tao”, a food company and a director at “The Greenade company”, a Cinematography firm.

Taaooma was born in Ilorin to the family of Mrs. Aishat Apaokagi and Mr. Apaokagi. She spent some years in Namibia after her relocation from Ilorin to Abuja. She had her early education in Kwara State before relocating to Abuja. She completed her secondary education at Concordia College Namibia.

Taaooma then moved back to Nigeria to complete her tertiary education at Kwara State University where she studied Tourism and Travel Services Management and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Tourism and Travel Services Management. Maryam skits making started when she met “Abula”, a Lagos based music video director. Thereafter Abula, taught her video editing with the software Adobe Premiere Pro in 2015. In 2016, she produced her first comedy skit series, best known as Taaooma Skit or Taaooma on IGTV, where she plays multiple roles in her skit series.

In 2020, Taaooma appeared in attendance as the petition was signed at end of the International Youth Leadership Summit, which was held on March 19, at the Oduduwa Hall.

In February 2020, Taaooma sat with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on the Rubbin’ Minds show on Channels TV, where she spoke about the alleged rivalry between her and Maraji. She cleared the air about the ongoing debate on who is a better skit maker of the duo role. In March 2020, she tells Punch Newspapers, she’s not in competition with her colleagues.

On 23 March, she created a comedy health skit, to spread the word on COVID-19. On 16 May 2020, she became a trending topic, after the skit had gone viral and her followers had grown to 1 million on Instagram. She also spoke about Covid-19 on Inspiring Africa show on Euronews, where she focused on African parents who were ignorant.
